Jump into January!!

After all the fun, excitement and socialising of the Christmas period, January is a fantastic time to reset and take some time to think about your goals for the coming year.

If you have taken a couple of weeks of over the festive period, ease back into your training schedule. Rushing in too quickly can result in injury, so make sure you take it slow.

Think about what goals you would like to achieve in 2017. Is there a muscle group or area on your body you wish to target? Is there a run you’d like to do? Want to expand your exercise regime to include some cross training, swimming perhaps?

Writing down your goals is a fantastic way to help them happen. Write yourself small post-it notes and stick them around the house as visual reminders for you to stick to your goals – it may sound silly, but this works. Articulating your goals and discussing them with friends is a great way to help you stay on track and avoid the all too common New Year’s Resolution Fail syndrome that happens by the end of January. By making yourself accountable for achieving your goals you are more likely to stick to the program and, as a result, see significant improvement.

The key with any good training program is consistency. Without consistency, you may as well admit defeat right now. Prioritise your training – don’t let yourself be put down at the bottom of the list of importance. It is hard to do, especially if you have kids, but you will all reap the benefits from the clarity and peace of mind that exercise brings.

If you are feeling fit and healthy, that will carry over into your home life, reducing stress levels and helping you keep on top of all your responsibilities.

So this January, take a moment. Sit down with a pad of paper and a pen and let yourself dream about what you want 2017 to bring. You may surprise yourself!

And remember, any training routine – swimming, running, cycling, boxing - will benefit from consistent strength and core training. One of the best ways to achieve this consistency is by using a Personal Trainer to help guide you and keep you on track. Call us here at Move PTS and let one of our experienced trainers create a program that will get you stronger and fitter than you dare believe!
