Top 5 Fitness Trends for 2018

Fitness trends come and go. Remember the thigh blaster? And the ab machines that promise results for no effort? Take it from us, never believe those claims! Fitness takes time, effort and consistency, and anyone who tells you different is pulling your leg.

Move Health and Fitness have compiled a list of the top 5 fitness trends we predict for 2018:

High-intensity interval training: known as HIIT, it typically involves short bursts of high-intensity exercise followed by a short period of rest or recovery: intermittently sprinting for 30 seconds, for example, during a moderate-pace jog. HIIT gets results, fast, which is why it is the top trend for 2018.

Group training: defined as classes involving more than five participants, group training comes in at the No. 2. As the economy suffers a downturn, there is less money available for one-on-one personal training – and we predict a spike in popularity of group classes will become evident over the course of the year.

Wearable technology: think activity trackers and smartwatches. These have seen massive growth over the last year or so, and they promise to grow even further due to ease of use and functionality.

Body weight training: we love body weight training! The use of your own body weight as a form of resistance while doing modified push-ups and other exercises comes in 4th. The perfect starting point for your fitness journey you can do exercises in the comfort of your own home – of course, we recommend a program designed by a fitness professional to ensure you avoid injury.

Strength training:  we love strength training even more than body weight training! Using weights is a sure-fire way to increase strength, kick start your metabolism and get your fitness levels up.

So there they are, Move Health and Fitness’s top 5 trends for 2018.

Keep in mind that Australia’s national physical activity guidelines recommend 150 minutes of moderate activity, or 75 minutes of vigorous activity each week, with additional muscle-strengthening exercise for adults.

If you need help achieving these goals, call Move Health and Fitness today. We’ll get you started on your fitness journey.
