Bedtime benefits – 5 reasons you should get into bed early!!

It’s very easy to lose track of time, especially if you work long hours, or if you have young children. With your daily commitments taking up all the daylight hours it is easy to push back your bedtime in order to have time to yourself. But lack of consistent sleep is terrible for your health. Here are the top 5 reasons for getting into bed at a reasonable hour:

1.     You get a better Workout

According to a recent study conducted at Stanford University, a group of athletes increased their sleep to 10 hours a night for a period of six weeks and saw their performances spike to an all-time high.

2.      You’ll have more energy

When you are well rested everything feels achievable. Having at least 8 hours of consistent sleep a night gives your body time to recover from the rigors of a stressful work environment, and powers you up, energising you.

3.       Promotes Weight Loss

The longer you are awake the more you eat and those late night snacks stack on the weight! The body will store all those extra calories rather than burning them off. Also, if you fill up at night you are more likely to skip breakfast which can lead to binge eating later in the day.

4.       Healthier Heart

According to researchers at the Misao Health Clinic in Gifu, Japan, participants in a study who went to bed after midnight were found to have significantly more arterial stiffening (an early sign of heart disease) than those who climbed into bed at a more reasonable hour. Eek, that’s a scary study and the perfect reason to hop into bed earlier.

5.       A More Productive Morning

Even if you swear you're not a morning person, no one is biologically programmed to stay up late. Hauling yourself out of bed earlier can result in higher energy levels in the A.M.—allowing you to squeeze in a workout or a productive extra hour at the office. By getting up earlier and filling your day, you will be ready for bed by 10pm.

So, turn off the TV. Put down the book. Change into your comfy pj’s and jump into bed!
